Judicial Ethics, Canon 2: Integrity

Canon 2 is the shortest of the 6 canons of the New Code of Judicial Conduct. It consists of only 3 sections and talks about integrity.

A judge is expected to maintain an irreproachable conduct. This irreproachable conduct must also be perceived by a normal person. Justice is not merely to be done; it must also be perceived to be done. The behavior and conduct of the judge is aimed at helping the people keep faith in the judicial institution.

The judge, consequently must not hesitate to take the appropriate disciplinary action against court personnel or lawyers displaying unprofessional conduct.
